Car Door Lock Repair in North Dallas
When the key won’t turn in your door or trunk lock, or a lock was damaged in a break-in attempt, we repair or replace the lock cylinder at your vehicle and make sure it works with your key.
- Door, trunk and tailgate locks
- Repaired or replaced at your vehicle
- Matched to your key in many cases
- Clear quote before we start
With remote locking, many people rarely use the key in their car door — until the fob battery dies and the lock won’t turn. Door and trunk locks also wear out, seize up or get damaged when someone tries to break in. We fix the mechanical side: the lock cylinder your key goes into.
Signs a car lock needs repair
- The key goes in but won’t turn, or only turns partway
- The key turns, but the door doesn’t unlock
- The lock spins freely or feels loose in the door
- There are pry marks or other damage from a break-in attempt
- The trunk or tailgate lock no longer responds to the key
What we can do
- Repair worn or seized lock cylinders
- Replace damaged cylinders on doors, trunks and tailgates
- Match the lock to your key in many cases, so one key still works the doors and the ignition
- Make a new key if your current one is too worn to work the lock

Good to know
Power locks are a different system
If neither the remote nor the interior lock button works on a door, the problem may be a power-lock actuator or wiring inside the door rather than the lock cylinder. We’ll tell you honestly whether that’s something we can fix or a job for a mechanic or body shop.
After a break-in
If your lock was damaged in a break-in, consider reporting it to the police before the repair, especially if you plan to file an insurance claim. Take photos of the damage first.
Stiff locks fail at the worst time
A lock that’s getting hard to turn is easier to fix before it fails completely — or before a key snaps inside it. If that has already happened, see broken key extraction.
Use the key now and then
Turning the key in the driver’s door every few weeks helps stop the lock from seizing, so it still works on the day your fob battery dies.

Car Door Lock Repair questions

Why won’t my key turn in the car door?
Door locks that rarely get used can seize up, and a worn key stops lining up with the parts inside the lock. Don’t force it — a snapped key makes things harder. Call us and we’ll take a look.
Can a new door lock work with my existing key?
In many cases, yes. We can set up a replacement cylinder to match your current key, so you don’t end up with one key for the doors and another for the ignition.
Do you fix power locks?
We focus on lock cylinders and keys. If the problem is a power-lock actuator or the wiring inside the door, we’ll tell you honestly whether we can help or whether it’s a job for a mechanic.
